How are you involved in education?
I teach future educators at Temple University and work as a Learning Specialist at Girard College. I am also a Senior Partner at RE:School (http://www.re-school.org). In my spare time, I am a member of a cognitive research group which bridges school psychology and educational psychology. My interests are in the description of Expertise skills and Expert skill acquisition, memory, and Learning Theories. I am the natural enemy of talent, pedagogy, and other misused terminology.
What’s your ideal classroom or school like?
The perfect classroom is one filled with students and a competent teacher. I enjoy teaching wherever I am and want students to understand that learning does not require anything other than themselves.
Have you ever attended an unconference before?
I attended the first EdCamp Philly and have since attended HigherEd Camp, TMNJ, and EdCampNYC.
If you were to lead a session at EdCamp, what would it be about?
I have been having a lot of fun with the personification of the metacognitive mind so I may present on that but I am considering a discussion about Tacit Knowledge, Perception, and Prejudice and how it builds roadblocks to learning.
