How are you involved in education?
I teach 8th grade World History at Springfield Middle School in Springfield Township School District.
What’s your ideal classroom or school like?
Money and regulations have very little to do with my ideal classroom environment. The only priority I have is creating a climate where kids feel safe and comfortable. As a teacher, it is nearly impossible to unlock the academic potential of any student that doesn’t feel completely comfortable in your classroom. My ideal classroom has to be a reflection of me. It is a place that I’ll be the homeowner of, but my students will rent. They’re here quite often, but those days are limited. My students can get snapshots of the type of person I am or the interests I have by observing what’s in my classroom. My room always displays student work and there’s plenty of tech toys to both grab their interest, and extend their learning.
Have you ever attended an unconference before?
No, I have not.
If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?
I manage quite a busy blogspot site for my classroom that includes a various array of widgets. This site is a resource center for students, teachers, administration, and parents. I’d love to lead a session showing the ins and outs of my site.
