How are you involved in education?

  • I am currently a Sophomore at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. I’m currently studying English, but plan to add on Political Science as a Minor next Fall. Although Rutgers does not provide Education as a major, they provide the 5-year Teacher Education Program at the Graduate School of Education which I plan to apply to next semester. My heart and soul go into elevating voices of the students, especially in regards to Educational Equity. I plan to teach high school English in At-Risk Urban locations after earning my Teaching Certificate. As I describe my aspirations, “I’m not trying to change the world, just trying to empower those who will.”

What’s your ideal classroom or school like?

  • Anything where students are fully engaged and fall in love with learning–not test grades and test scores. A classroom students look forward to being in because they enjoy the atmosphere and feel they are truly benefiting from attending class! My ideal classroom (the way I hope my future classrooms to be) is one that allows students to leave with a never sleeping passion and drive to make the difference in the world they can make.
