Meet Fran Poodry, High School Physics Teacher
If you’d like to be featured in our Meet the Edcampers series, fill out this form!
How are you involved in education?
- I’m a high school physics teacher in the West Chester Area School District, in Chester County, PA
What’s your ideal classroom or school like?
- My ideal classroom would have plenty of “$2 interactive whiteboards” (see http://fnoschese.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/the-2-interactive-whiteboard/) and markers, plenty of questions and student discussions, and would lack silence. My ideal school would include opportunities for students to pursue research and to collaborate on projects but would also offer practical and interesting courses. Students would receive credits for demonstrating knowledge or skill proficiency. What can I say, I’m a dreamer!
Have you ever attended an unconference before?
- This will be my third unconference. My first was Edcamp Philly 2011, and last summer I attended a private physics-related unconference in Delaware.
If you were to lead a session at EdCamp, what would it be about?
- I plan to lead a session on Standards-Based Grading. I have been using SBG with three of my classes this year and there are things that I love about it but also some real struggles I am having. I’d like to explain it to those who would like to learn about SBG and have a discussion about implementation and the necessity of compliance with the school system of grades.
