Meet Bob Irving, Lego Robotics Master

If you’d like to be featured in our Meet the Edcampers series, fill out this form!

Name: Bob Irving

How are you involved in education?
I am the technology coordinator for the middle school at Lancaster Country Day School, an independent PK-12 school in Lancaster, PA. I also teach 6th grade computers (incorporating Scratch and Lego Robotics), beginning programming (using GameMaker), and coach our Lego Robotics team. I am an admin of our Moodle site. When called upon, I also teach the odd class (very odd, some would say). This year I am also teaching 7th Grade US History. I also teach Lego Robotics in the summer at the Center for Talented Youth in Baltimore.I taught history and English for 20 years before segueing into technology.

What’s your ideal classroom or school like?
As hands-on as possible, preferably with a 1:1 laptop program. I am a big believer in Project-Based Learning, collaborative learning, and critical thinking. However, I also believe that there are times when the teacher must be “the sage on the stage”.

Have you ever attended an unconference before?
I never have, but it looks awesome!

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?
Any of the above — robotics, Scratch, GameMaker, also Moodle.
