Meet Michelle Blakeley, literature and writing teacher

If you’d like to be featured in our Meet the Edcampers series, fill out this form!

Name: Michelle Blakely

How are you involved in education?
I teach American literature and creative writing courses at Millburn High School in New Jersey. I’m highly interested in collaborative technology and its impact on writing and the publication industry.

What’s your ideal classroom or school like?
My ideal classroom is the classroom I have now. I have a SMART board and speakers at the front of the room in addition to two desktop computers for students to use. With unlimited funding, there would be a cart of laptops in my classroom to enable my students and I to go entirely paperless (except maybe for novels & books).

Have you ever attended an unconference before?
No, but looking forward to it!

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?
I am most interested in sharing lessons that involve Google Applications. Colleagues and I have worked throughout the year to pilot Google Apps for Education and collect best practices: http://docs.google.com/present/view?id=dsb5zt8_268cvr62rcf. I’ve found that Google documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and forms help foster active reading, collaborative writing, and student voice.
